Start with a base such as a tray or shoe box then a layer of one or more of our small world play sands. You can collect things from nature that you can use in your small worlds. Whatever scene you’re creating, try to limit it to just one space and around two or three characters or animals. Find a good mix of materials and textures, especially natural ones.
